Electronic Communications Policy

StartMedicareRight.com (S D Shafran Inc., Scott Shafran) offers insurance products.

Often our clients and those who request information on insurance products request information such as “what tier is my medication in my plan?” Or, they may request information via e-mail or text such as “What is the name of my Part D plan again?” or “What will the premium be on my plan for next year?” We also get questions such as, “I’m taking a new medication, named ___, would it be less expensive than my current medication, named __?”

Examples of Electronic Communication From Us:

  • ”John, your Lisinopril will be a Tier 1 Rx next year on your Part D Plan.”

  • “John, your Lisinopril would be $3 for 90-days because it’s Tier 1 and your Part D plan is ____ and your pharmacy is ___.”

Clients often ask us about specific medication and pricing for specific medications when covered by various insurance carriers. When we send replies regarding this information, it’s important that you understand and accept our Electronic Communication Policy.

In addition to sending information on specific medications, clients may also need to be sent (non-spam) reminders such as “appointment scheduled on __ day” or “Hello, we just tried to call, please give us a call back when you can at the office line at your convenience.”

In an effort to communicate with our client via e-mail or SMS or MMS text, we have the following communication policy. Most mobile carriers to not charge on a per-text basis, but if yours does and you do not want to receive text messages, please opt-out.

Participation in our Electronic Communications is not required to purchase insurance. Once you agree, the frequency of Messages we send may vary and you may receive multiple Messages (never more than reasonably necessary to conduct the business of helping you with insurance). These Messages may include, but are not limited to: notification about your prescription tiers for your plan, notification of premium changes, notification of appointments, and notification of general client communication. We hate spam and will keep electronic communications to a minimum. We will use the e-mail and phone numbers on file that you have provided or will provide in the future.

You agree that Text Messages and E-mails may include protected health information about your prescriptions, including the name of your prescription. Whoever has access to the mobile phone or carrier account or your e-mail will also be able to see this information. You acknowledge and understand that Messages (including text messages and e-mails) are not a secure means of communication, and any protected health information that may be contained in our Messages to you will not be encrypted. This means that there is risk that the protected health information contained in Text Messages or E-mails could be intercepted and read by or disclosed to, unauthorized third parties. Use of alternative and more secure methods of communication with us, such as telephone, fax, or the U.S. Postal Service are available to you. If you do not wish to accept the risks associated with unencrypted Messages from us, please follow the instructions below to opt-out of this program.

You may also opt out of our Messaging Program (email or SMS or MMS Texts) at any time by replying STOP or by calling our office at 855-887-5050.

Any communication we send to you is in a good-faith effort to provide you with information about how your insurance works for your specific needs. We have secure portals to receive information from you but we understand that you may prefer to simply receive a text message or an e-mail from us without encryption and password protection.
