Questions to ask
(we recommend asking all 6, plus any others you may have)
You can go to Medicare.gov – make sure you go to the official government website – and find drug plans – Part D. Enter your Rx’s into the Medicare.gov system and compare plans.
You can also call 1-800-Medicare for assistance in picking a Part D drug plan.
Five Questions to Ask Before Enrolling:
1. Are my prescriptions on the plan’s formulary?
Why ask this? - Each company has a list of covered drugs. If your plan is not on their list, a different plan may be more suitable.
2. Which tier are my prescriptions? (Give the representative your list of Rx’s – or lookup on Medicare.gov)
3. Does the plan impose any coverage restrictions, such as prior authorization or step therapy?
4. Is there a deductible, and if yes, does the deductible apply to all tiers, or just certain tiers?
5. What is the copay/coinsurance for each tier?
— This might be the most important question of all.
6. Is my pharmacy an in-network pharmacy? Is it preferred (if applicable)?
